Part Two  of the MAHU Legislative Discussion Series

  • A preview of the special topics to be discussed in depth by future panels in the podcast.

Marie Bell is a seasoned insurance professional with over 30 years of industry experience. She owns her own agency, DeRuyter-Bell, and specializes in the small group and individual markets in the State of MN. Marie is has been a member of the Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU) for over 20 years and currently serves on the MAHU Executive board as President-Elect and is one of the co-chairs of the Professional Development Committee.

 

Shawnee Christenson is the current president of MAHU.  She has been an independent insurance agent since 2005 where she specialized in individual, Medicare, and group insurance needs. She started her own Agency, Crosstown Insurance in 2012 and added Home and Auto to her product line in 2015. She has been an active participant with MAHU since 2012. Shawnee realizes how the organization is crucial to the success of her business and the ability for her to provide the professional service and advise to protect her clients for many years to come.

 

Richard Lett is the CEO of LeClair Group. He believes that paying attention to people and their needs is the key to success. Richard brings a rich history of leadership to LeClair Group, and has a unique understanding of risk management. Richard served for 30 years with the Metropolitan Police in London, otherwise known as Scotland Yard. He was a member of SO14, Royalty Protection Services.  Richard is a member of several industry associations in both the insurance and the security industry.

 Alycia Riedl

Alycia Riedl has over 15 years of experience with best-in-class companies and partners in the health insurance, employer and broker markets. She has a track record of building strategic partnerships and has a strong reputation among customers, industry leaders and co-workers.

Alycia has an in-depth understanding of current healthcare trends and potential reform impacts that affect employers today. Alycia is an expert in public and private healthcare exchanges and the strategies that can be built around them. She is a seasoned consultant with a thorough knowledge of employee benefits and markets and the pressures that her clients face.

 


Bob Stein serves as Marketing Representative at Employee Benefits Corporation (formerly Benefits Design Group) which focuses on Third Party Administration (TPA) specializing in Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA) and COBRA Administration.  Bob joined MAHU many years ago and is co-chair of the Legislative Committee educating legislators about the importance of Licensed Insurance Professionals.
 

 


Tim Wilkin brings a unique mix of extensive business and government experience to his government affairs and public policy practice. He spent eight years in the Minnesota House, serving in leadership positions including assistant majority leader and chair of the Commerce and Financial Institutions Committee.  His areas of expertise include health care, human services, financial services, general business regulation and taxes. Tim has served as the MAHU lobbyist for a number of years.

   Diane Lysen,  is a 40 year insurance and benefits veteran, specializing in sales and marketing of all ancillary products. She was a benefits consultant for the first 30 years of her career, helping her agency achieve preferred status with many local and national carriers.  Her past 10 years has been as a Sales Executive at Direct Benefits, Inc, the distributor of Spirit Dental products, and other national private label dental and vision plans for individuals and groups.  Her alter ego is Benefits Fairy Godmother.

 The Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU-NAHU) has played a major role in Diane's career. She has been a member of MAHU-NAHU for 30+ years. After serving on the Board of Directors for 12 years, Diane became President of the Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters in 2001-2002 and Chair of the Board 2002-2003.  She also served on various chairs for NAHU’s Region 4.

 In 2003 she was awarded the Symanitz Award, which honors only one person each year in the state for their outstanding contributions to the insurance industry. Diane continues to serve on MAHU's Professional Development Committee.

 

Joshua Haberman is currently a MAHU Board Member and has recently become the Secretary. He also serves on the NAIFA Twin Cities Board. Joshua entered the insurance business in late 2009 and has been operating insurance agencies and brokerages ever since. Alexander & Haberman currently is a MNsure broker enrollment center with operations in 8 locations throughout MN and employing nearly a dozen agents and staff. He also operates a more traditional agency with independent agents. He serves clients in the individual, Medicare, and small group markets. He lives in Saint Paul with his wife and two children.
